Brings Relatives Together Across Thousands of Miles
OCALA
On the heels of the one year anniversary of our nations tragedy,
a brand new business is opening tomorrow that uses the Internet to connect
job seekers and employers. It also brings one family closer together,
even though they live almost 5,000 miles apart.
JobsOcala.com,
Ocala's first regional E-cruiting job board, will open its virtual doors
with job opportunities from companies such as Emergency One, Remedy Intelligent
Staffing, Mary K. Thomas Employment Services, Fair and Sons, Fakhoury
Chiropractic, Ritz Historic Inn, Guardian Financial, Curington Contracting,
Inc., ClearChannel Outdoor, and AAA. It joins sister site and mentor JobsHawaii.com,
who launched online as Hawaii's first regional E-cruiting job board back
in 1999.
"As
with most people, September 11th made family a high priority in our lives.
When our cousin called and asked us what we thought about working together,
it just seemed so right", shared Angie Blackman, longtime resident
and co-founder of JobsOcala.com. "We talk almost every day. Before
the business, we tried to keep in touch via email or phone, but now it
is like we live next door."
Her
relative, Shawnja Yamaguchi, has lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for the past
15 years. With a family of five she has only been able to visit Ocala
once because of the distance. "My cousins and I are more like siblings
and I miss them very much. I wanted to find a way to bridge the miles
and also share in our business success. This past year has been a real
wake-up call to remind me what life is really all about."
JobsOcala.com
is locally owned by David and Angie Blackman, Ocala residents for more
than 12 years. It uses the same business model and software, ecruiterwareTM,
as JobsHawaii.com, which was developed by Shawnja and Peter, her husband,
over three years ago in Honolulu. Both JobsOcala.com and JobsHawaii.com
have a mission to provide "Service beyond Excellence and E-cruiting
Expertise" to job seekers and businesses while saving them both them
time and money.
"People
don't want to feel like they are one in millions when they are trying
to find work. They need to be THE ONE in the million. That is what we
are about. We provide all of the rich features of the big job boards,
but the understanding and commitment of a neighbor - because we are neighbors",
explained Angie.
As
far as being in business together as a family, both Angie and Shawnja
agree that there are certain challenges, but they share a love and respect
for each other. Angie sums it all up by saying, "The rewards far
outweigh the obstacles; and I don't mean money. We get to help people
every day in our own communities, together. It doesn't get much better
than that!"
E-cruiting
is a term for electronic recruiting. It combines the power of employment
advertising and technological tools to shorten the hiring process. It
is a national trend that accounts for two-thirds of job placements in
the U.S.
JobsOcala.com
will launch October 11th at the JobExpo 2002 sponsored by the Star Banner
and Central Florida Community College (CFCC) at CFCCs Webber Center
from 10 am to 6 pm. The site will offer on-line users a host of e-cruiting
services designed specifically for Ocala's job market.
